Bringhurst Girls

Last week my sister Missy and her family came to stay with us for a couple of days before they headed to Cedar City for a family reunion. One of the nights they stayed with us, Olivia and Carley decided that it would be fun to play in the dog swimming pool in the backyard. Kurt had just put a new pool out and filled it with cold water from the hose so that the dogs could cool off. The girls first jumped in with all of their clothes and shoes on. Pretty soon they ended up like this...

They had a lot of fun playing in the pool with the dogs. Maggie and C.J. didn't really care that they were sharing their pool with the girls, and I think they even had fun with them!

My baby Amy...
I know most of my posts are about Amy, but she is at the center of my life right now and as her mom I can't help but write about her. She turned 5 months old on Saturday. I keep thinking how last year at this time, nobody even really knew that I was pregnant. It was kind of fun to keep such a huge secret from family and friends and then tell them at just the right time. I love the element of surprise!


At her 4 month check up, Amy weighed in at 17.2 pounds (95th percentile), 25 1/2 inches (81st percentile), and 42.5 cm (80th percentile) for her head. She is growing like a weed! People always tell me that their kids didn't weigh that much when they turned one year old! What can I say, my kid loves to eat and grow!


We started Amy on rice cereal a couple of weeks ago and so far she loves it. I really never understood how kids made such a mess when eating...but now I know! I find myself cleaning up rice cereal off the wall behind Amy, the chair she sits in, her hair, from up her nose, her hands, legs, feet, and face and also from my hair, face, hands, and arms!! We have fun while she is eating though. She is really very interested when I make airplane or train sounds while moving the spoon in all different directions!

Amy's new shades

Happy 4th of July...

This year I thought the 4th of July would be pretty boring compared to last year, but it turned out to be a great day. Last year Kurt and I were in Colorado for a family reunion and we spent the day with my sister Missy and her family. We had such a great time and it was so much fun to be together.

Yesterday we started the day off by going to the ward pancake breakfast with Mandy and Anthony. The breakfast was just across the road at the park that is near our house. A lot of people were there and it was fun to visit with everyone. Some of the primary kids decorated their bikes and had a short parade while patriotic music played in the background. It looked like they all had a blast.

After the breakfast we really didn't have any plans for the day, but we found out that a parade was going to be going on just down the road. Me, Amy, Mandy, and Anthony decided to go and check it out. The street was packed with people but we were able to find a spot to put out some camping chairs and park Amy's stroller. The parade was okay (I think the 24th is a much bigger holiday in Utah and the parades are a lot better then) and Amy was interested in all of the loud fire trucks and then thought everything else was pretty boring. We got all sorts of candy thrown at us and all of the baseball players in the parade were squirting water at everyone along the side of the road. I was real glad that I decided to pack the umbrella to take with us. Amy did not like getting wet with the few drops that happened to land on her.

When the parade was over we all went home and took a little, much needed, nap. Then that night Kurt and I had Mandy, Anthony, Kim, and Kraig over for a BBQ. It was a very last minute decision to have a BBQ at our house and we made a quick trip to Smiths for all of the basics. After we ate we played Battle of the Sexes and the girls kicked butt! (We really got very lucky to win. Those boys are pretty darn smart) Then we headed outside to watch all of the fireworks that were being lit. It was a great day.
